Alchemy Lock Box – By Sally Roe
Materials used –
Black Gesso
Stamperia Alchemy card / paper pad
Tim Holtz Distress inks : Walnut Stain & Vintage Photo
Heavy Body Gel
Imagination Crafts Artsy stones : Large & Small
A mix of Metal Embellishments
Deck Art metallic paints : Festive Red, Rich Espresso & Dark Patina.
Decoupage glue
Glitter Magic glitter: vintage gold
Step One:
Assemble the lock box. (You can find a how to video HERE)
Step Two :
Paint the entire lock box with Black Gesso.
Step Three:
Chose some papers to use, I used Stamperia papers.
Then rip chosen pieces into several smaller pieces. Don’t forget to mix and match your papers.
Step Four :
Using the Tim Holtz Distress ink Vintage Photo, gently rub the ink around each piece of ripped paper blending as you go . Then using the Walnut Stain Distress Ink add it lightly over the edges of the ripped paper.
Step Five:
Using decoupage glue , stick all your ripped & inked papers to the front of the box, and Don’t forget you can over lap them .
Step Six:
Pick a mix of Metal Embellishments and glue them down on the front of the box anywhere you would like using the heavy body gel.
Once they have dried ( you can use a heat tool or hair dryer to speed up the drying process ) Use a small paint brush and paint over them with Black Gesso and allow to dry.
Step Seven:
Using heavy body gel with either a palette knife or a larger paint brush, spread it around the outer edges and into any little gaps between the metal embellishments, then sprinkle over a mix of the large and small artsy stones. Give them a gentle press so that they are nicely anchored into the gel. Again leave to dry or use a heat tool. Once dry paint with Black Gesso.
Step Eight:
Use the Deco Art metallic rich espresso paint over the metal embellishments and artsy stones. Then with the Festive Red paint, pick one embellishment that you would like to stand out ( I picked the heart ) and paint this.
Lastly using the Dark Patina I lightly dry brushed it over the embellishments and artsy stones. ( to dry brush you coat a paint brush in paint then wipe off the excess on a paper towel, then using very light strokes, brush over the items )
Step Nine :
Cover the Alchemy MDF word in decoupage glue and the vintage gold glitter, then stick down with heavy body gel.
Remember to have fun and that art and creativity is unique .
This was one of my most favourite creations and I loved making it.
It incorporates several different mediums and techniques but is simple to do, giving a retro / vintage look. With the techniques used for this project you can easily use them time and time again on various other projects .
