Hello, Mags here, today I am sharing a project I created for Sam’s June Hochanda show. I adored this collection, it was one of my all-time favourites. As soon as I saw it, I knew what I wanted to create, a reverse canvas.
- Before I started, I laid the design out so I knew where everything would be placed.
- I painted the reversed canvas with blue and sand coloured acrylic paint, blending on the overlap for a more natural look.
- Once dry I dry brushed with white gesso for a beachy feel.
- I had a scrapbook paper that fitted into the aperture of the reversed canvas exactly, this was glued in with PVA
- The MDF shapes were coated with white gesso, applied with a large foam dabber.
- Once dry I painted them with pretty pastel coloured acrylic paint, again applied with a foam dabber. I did however leave the Octopus plain.
- I added details to the jellyfish and shells with a white gel pen.
- Finally I attached everything to the canvas and frame, layering as required.
- The finishing touch was a small amount of cotton mesh to add texture.
I hope you like the project as much as I do.
