Variations on a Theme by Mags Woodcock
Hello, Mags here ,today I am taking a look back at some of the MDF journal covers I have decorated in the past.
The very first journal (above) was a simple design.
I applied a coat of gesso, added texture paste through a stencil and once dry I painted everything with some pearl acrylic paint. Once dry again I added some stamping for interest. I finished by highlighting the texture paste and the edges of the journal with distress ink.
The second version (above) has a vintage feel
A base coat of gesso, followed by a layer of vintage papers. Next another coat of gesso.
I applied a light coat of distress ink and then sprayed with water to move the ink and add visual texture. Once dry I stencilled on crackle paste and added some random stamping. To finish the project, I added some metal embellishments and micro beads.
The final version is a combination of both projects.
The base layers were gesso and vintage papers, followed by a wash of acrylic paint( acrylic paint watered down). Stamping and stencilling as before.
The stars are coloured with acrylic paint
All the projects have the seam binding coloured to watch the project with either acrylic paint or Distress Ink .
I hope these projects inspire you to have a go at decorating a journal
