Big Red’s HERE!!!

A bit later than expected, but I wanted to share some pictures of ‘Big Red’ arriving to his new and rather squished home!

I think I underestimated just how big he was! Or i had spectacularly convinced myself that he was smaller and would fit fine! But he fitted, he’s in, OK so he takes up a quarter of my workshop (glorified summerhouse), but he’s there and he’s running and i can just about move around him! lol

Our wonderful engineer Howard arrived bright and early at 8.30am and if only I had pictured my husbands face when Howard opened up the van and my husband saw just how big my ‘new toy’ was! I can’t count how many times he shock his head throughout the day hehe.

The first task was getting Big Red off the van, easier said than done when it weighs as much as its does! But he came down pretty easily. Then Howard discovered he had forgotten his trolley and the laser needed to be taken apart to get through a couple of doorways! But thankfully Hubby had a great trolley he popped into work to borrow and a bit of foam, a few screws and some huffing and puffing later and the top half of the laser was on the trolley.

I was very nervous and could barely watch and then was anxious the laser was leaning on the trolley, just for us to discover one of the wheels was completely flat and the other needed a bit of air too with that weight on it!

So a few pumps later and Big Red looked a little more stable on the trolley. He was wheeled through into the back garden and then after a quick breather, whilst discussing how to get it up onto the summer house decking and through the door, hubby and Howard (with a little bit of me help) got the trolley and laser onto the decking and into the workshop.

Then came the fun part of getting the base fixed back on and Big Red stood up, in a very small space (I promise I had taken soooo much stuff and furniture out of there to give them more room, but it was still a feat and a half!).

More huffing and puffing and a bit of readjusting and Big Red, base in place was up on his wheels!

A quick Mc D’s break as we were all starving (our eldest who was babysitting our youngest Lilly as it was polling day and Lilly was off playschool, kindly popped to get us the much needed grub)

Howard fitted everything back on and got the laser all set up, then we had a chat about it and maintenance etc, I had a play at realigning the mirrors (a job i detested on my old laser), but it was much easier on Big Red as he has lots of side panels that fold down and so mirrors that are easier to get to and move 🙂

We encountered a hitch with the laser not travelling the full distance of the bed, but after a bit of playing Howard got it sorted

We finished up going over everything and just as Howard was set to leave, i realised the light wouldn’t switch off, so Howard had to wire in a new light switch, he didn’t leave us yesterday until 6pm! I can’t thank him enough for making the whole process so easy and putting my mind at rest when i was stressing about getting it in such a tight space!

I spent some time last night rearranging the workshop to better accommadate Big Red, I still have furniture that won’t fit back in and that I need to sort a new home for and I still have stuff everywhere! But i had other orders to complete and so that took my time instead. I got 20 mins playtime before bed (3am ouch!) and just wanted to see what kind of detail i could achieve with the engraving, this is my first and second attempt. These are coaster size, so those little details are tiny!
