Matte Medium (Prima)
Distress Ink Pad Vintage Photo
Metal Ruler

  1. Cover the sign with a thin layer of white Gesso and allow to dry.
  2. Use a palette knife to add a thick layer of white crackle paste and then drag a metal ruler or similar across the sign to create the plank effect. Allow to dry thoroughly.

TIP: Using a heat gun to dry the paste will result in smaller crackles. If you leave it overnight to dry you will get bigger crackles.

  1. Cover sign with a very thin layer of Matte Medium to stop the crackle from peeling off over time.
  2. Use a sponge and rub the Vintage Photo Distress ink into the cracks and the grooves made by the ruler. Keep going over it until you get the look you want.

TIP: If the sign looks too brown use a damp (not wet) baby wipe to remove some of the colour.
5.Paint the shipwreck with a matte black acrylic paint and stick to the sign when dry.

6. Colour your chosen word with the vintage photo ink pad and stick in place to finish.

TIP: Instead of using a nautical word add a child’s name to make this a bedroom sign.
