So, who was lucky enough to grab some of the incredible sea themed MDF recently showcased on Hochanda?
I was SO excited to be able to work with these. The detail in them is just stunning. I love all things nautical so I was in heaven playing with my DT pack.
Today I’m sharing a quick step by step on my Shipwrecked piece. I hope you find it informative.

Step 1: Using tissue paper and structure paste and a stencil I created some background texture and once dried covered in white gesso

Step 2: Then it was time to add some colour. I also added more texture by colouring Tar Gel and laying that on to create a wave effect.

Step 3: I used some stamps, waxes and inks to add more definition and interest., building up the layers.

Step 4: One this was dry it was time to assemble the finished piece. I added texture sand, shells and treasures and of course the MDF pieces that were to be the main feature.

I was really pleased with how this came together. These MDF pieces would look so good on any home décor project and I would have loved to have hung this one in my mermaid themed bathroom, but of course I sent it to Sam for the show. Oh well, I will just have to get playing again and make myself another one won’t I?
