For this mixed media canvas I firstly arranged the elements I wanted to use and took a photograph for reference so I knew how I’d arranged my layout.
The face stamp is part of a rubber stamp set from Stampendous which is a favourite of mine called ‘The Look’.
It comes with a mask but as I wanted to use paint and knew it would be quite messy I made my own mask by stamping and cutting out of copy paper.
I then stamped the face image onto mixed media card before colouring using a selection of acrylic and chalky paints, masking off the face area while concentrating on the hair.
Once happy with the this I adhered to the canvas.
Next I arranged and adhered a selection of the SamanthaK MDF cogs, flowers, bubbles and clusters around the hair .
Once dry I applied black gesso over everything except the face and hair.
Then I started to apply gilding waxes in gold, bronze and patina colours, I applied over the canvas and on the cogs to create depth.
The piece was finished with an MDF heart which I textured with paint and overheated to make it bubble then added gilding wax.
