Mothers day makes! – Incld. Card tutorial

I want to share the mothers day bouquets and cards we gave to our mums this year.
I have also shared the process in making the cards and Flower stick ‘Mums’

To make some extra special, extra large bouquets for my mum and MIL (and to save spending a fortune on flowers buying pre-made fancy bouquets). I purchased lots of different, various, bunches of flowers and made two large bouquets out of them, here is one of them.

Making the Bouquets:
The vintage style Butterfly wrap was made by myself and Lilly (our 3 year old) to make it extra special 🙂It was old inner packing material, the type that protects items in their boxes. We stamped the wrap with 2 different sized butterflies from the gorgeous Stampendous Jumbo Butterfly Trio stamp Set and covered the paper in cello wrap. The ink used was an archival ink.

It didn’t matter that the paper was a bit wrinkled or that Lilly couldn’t quite get the hang of ‘keep the stamp still’ lol, because it just added to the vintage feel.

The ‘Mum’ stick (in the flowers), were made from MDF and had my mum and MIL’s names down the side.

Here they are in their raw forms after being laser cut.

I first painted them with a couple of coats of white paint.

And then between the two, I used a mixture of Wink of Stella Pens and some nearly dried up sparkle medium. I chose colours that i thought would go well with the flowers.

To finish them off and to ensure they would pop from the flowers. I used some peel off silver glitter sparkly circles on them. Peel offs are something that I’ve never really loved, but these are so sparkly, easy to use and look like they have dimension to them. At first glance they just look like gorgeous glittered domes. The adhesive on the back of these is excellent, so they stuck very well to the coloured surface.

Here are some pics of the finished flower sticks in the bouquets.

Making the Cards:

mothers day cards

I made two similar cards, with the main difference being the colour of the butterflies and the words.

1. Firstly I cut two pieces of watercolour card and stamped the large butterfly from the Stampendous Jumbo Butterfly Trio Set, in Versamark onto the card. I then quickly sprinkled on some bright white embossing powder from WOW.

2. Once this was heat set I sprinkled a few Brusho Crystals of the colours I wanted into a palette tray and spritzed carefully with water. Any watercolour paints could be used.

3. I used a paint brush to apply the colour to the card in the area of the Butterfly, the white embossed lines act as a resist and any paint can be gently dabbed off afterwards, leaving crisp white lines.

4. Once happy with how the Butterflies looked I added an outline coloured area to one, but decided not to around the bolder green butterfly.

5. I took my Chipboard/grey board shapes and coloured them. The green one was stained with Pine Needles distress Ink and then had some Inka Gold gilding wax rubbed lightly over it to add a bit of texture. The orange one is solid orange gilding wax, covered all over and then buffed to a high shine.

6. I then mounted each of the water colour sections onto a corresponding mat, so the orange butterfly on an orange mat and the green butterfly on a green mat.

7. These layers were then mounted onto 300+gm Linen Card stock (hard to see the texture of the Linen cardstock in the photo). This meant that they were on a sturdy, classy base and that the texture of the Linen card, broke up the fact there was so much white area.

8. I popped a few pearls in the corner of the cards and adhered the chipboard words. The cards were finished.
